About the Artist

Emily is a textile artist based in the mountains of North Carolina, creating modern compositions that celebrate the depth, texture, and quiet power of fabric. Rooted in the tradition of quilt making, her work brings a contemporary perspective to one of the world’s oldest art forms by transforming cloth and stitch into fine art.

Emily's passion lies in texture, restraint, and balance. She works with fabric the way a painter works with pigment. Using layering, cutting and composition until the piece feels complete. Each quilted surface holds a quiet complexity, inviting a closer look. While rooted in domestic tradition, her work belongs on the wall. Her work is bold in form, soft in tone, and made to elevate the everyday.

This practice is both personal and collective. It honors the generations of makers who came before her, whose creativity has often been overlooked or undervalued. Emily aims to continue that lineage by bringing new attention to the artistry of textiles and the stories they carry.

The tactile world has always been a source of creative expression for Emily. Her journey as an artist began in early childhood, making dresses and clothing with her mother. This foundation in sewing nurtured a lifelong need to create with her hands. As a teenager and into her late twenties, her artistic interests branched out to encompass a range of mediums, from painting with oils and acrylics to working with pottery, needlepoint, and knitting.
This multi-disciplinary background deepened her understanding of color, texture, and form, all of which now inform her quilting. Emily's artistic path came full circle during the pandemic while awaiting the birth of her daughter. Seeking a meaningful and creative outlet, she rediscovered her passion for textile art while creating a quilt for her baby. The therapeutic and deeply personal experience of quilting during this isolating period solidified her commitment to the medium. Her quilts reflect a rich history of making, combining a range of skills and a deeply personal touch born from years of self-taught experimentation.
